Building performance of FRP
(1) Designability of material properties
The performance of FRP can be designed according to the use requirements, such as water resistance, anti-corrosion, high strength, resin matrix composites can be selected. Because of its light weight and convenient manufacturing, FRP can be manufactured in one time for large-scale structure and complex shape building products, which can improve the integrity of the building structure.
(2) Good mechanical properties
The mechanical properties of glass fiber reinforced plastics can be designed in a wide range. Due to the different materials selected, the laying direction and direction of reinforcement materials are different, composite materials with great performance discrimination can be obtained. For example, the tensile strength of unidirectional glass fiber reinforced epoxy composite can reach more than 1000 MPa, which is higher than that of steel (building steel). Carbon fiber is selected as the reinforcement material, The elastic modulus of FRP can reach the level of building steel, but its density is 4-5 times smaller than that of steel. What's more outstanding is that in the manufacturing process, FRP can be strengthened locally according to the stress condition of the components, which can not only improve the bearing capacity of the structure, but also save the material and reduce the self weight.
(3) Good decoration
The surface of glass fiber reinforced plastics is smooth and clean, which can be made into various bright colors, and also can produce different patterns and patterns. It is suitable for manufacturing various decorative panels, large relief and arts and crafts sculptures.
(4) Transparence
Transparent glass fiber reinforced plastic has a light transmittance of more than 85% (similar to glass). Its biggest feature is that it is not easy to break and can bear load. When it is used in construction engineering, the structure, enclosure and lighting can be designed comprehensively, which can simplify the lighting design and reduce the project cost.
(5) Thermal insulation
The function of building is to prevent the temperature change caused by heat conduction and convection, and provide people with a good working and rest environment. For example, the thermal conductivity of ordinary concrete is 1.5-2.1 w (m · K), the thermal conductivity of red brick is 0.81 w (m · K), and the thermal conductivity of resin matrix composite sandwich structure is 0.05-0.08 w (m · K), which is 10 times smaller than ordinary red brick and 20 times smaller than concrete.
(6) Sound insulation
The sound insulation effect is one of the standards to evaluate the building quality. But in the traditional materials, the building materials with good sound insulation effect tend to have high density, poor heat insulation and difficult transportation and installation. Although the sound insulation performance of FRP is not very ideal, it has the function of dissipating vibration sound wave and transmitting sound wave. The specially designed sandwich structure can achieve the double-layer effect of sound insulation and heat insulation.
(7) Electrical properties
FRP has good insulation performance, it is not affected by electromagnetic wave, does not reflect radio waves. Through the design, it can have good microwave transmission performance in a very wide frequency band, and has special uses for buildings of electric communication system, such as manufacturing radar radome and various machine rooms.
(8) Chemical resistance
Glass fiber reinforced plastic has good anti microbial effect and resistance to acid, alkali, organic solvents and seawater corrosion. It is especially suitable for chemical construction, underground construction and hydraulic construction.
(9) Water permeability and water absorption glass fiber reinforced plastic has low moisture absorption and impermeability, which can be used in waterproof, water supply and drainage engineering in construction engineering.
Application of building resin matrix composites
(1) Bearing structure
Composite building products used as load-bearing structures include columns, trusses, beams, foundations, load-bearing folded plates, roof slabs, floor slabs, etc. These FRP members are mainly used for load-bearing structures of chemical corrosion plants, high-rise buildings and large plate structures of all FRP composite buildings.
(2) Enclosure structure
FRP envelope products include various corrugated plate, sandwich structure plate, FRP composite plate of different materials, integral and assembled folded plate structure and shell structure. The plate used as shell structure is not only an enclosure structure, but also a load-bearing structure. These components can be used as assembly components of exterior wall panels, partition boards, anti-corrosion floors, roof structures, sunshades, ceilings, thin shell structures and folded plate structures of industrial and civil buildings.
(3) Daylighting products
Transparent building products include transparent corrugated board, translucent sandwich structure board, integral and assembled lighting hood, etc., which are mainly used for skylight, roof and wall lighting of industrial plants, civil buildings, agricultural greenhouses and large public buildings.
(4) Decorative materials for doors and windows
It belongs to this kind of material products, such as pultruded FRP profiles for door and window sections, flat plates, relief plates, composite plates, etc., and resin FRP profiles for general window frames. Composite doors and windows are waterproof, heat insulation and chemical corrosion resistant. For industrial and civil buildings, decorative panels used for wainscot, ceiling, large relief, etc.
(5) Water supply and drainage engineering materials
Composite products have been widely used in water supply, drainage and sewage treatment projects in municipal construction, such as various specifications of water supply FRP, high water tank, septic tank, anti-corrosion sewage pipe, etc.
(6) Sanitary ware materials
This kind of products include bathtub, washbasin, bedpan, all kinds of integral and assembled toilets, which are widely used in sanitary engineering and all kinds of toilets of all kinds of buildings.
(7) Heating and ventilation materials
This kind of composite products include cooling tower, pipe, plate, grid plate, fan, blade and integral heating and ventilation products. Ventilation kitchen, air supply pipe, exhaust pipe, anti-corrosion fan cover, etc. in the central air conditioning system applied in engineering.
(8) Roof building of high rise building
Such as revolving restaurant roof, special-shaped pointed roof decoration, building heightening, spherical roof, roof garden, roof swimming pool, billboard and advertising materials.
(9) Special architecture
Large span hangar, cold storage of various sizes, movable house, sentry box, antique building, mobile theater, microwave tower, shielding room, anti-corrosion workshop, hydraulic building, breakwater, solar house, inflatable building, etc.
(10) Others
There are many other uses of FRP in architecture, such as various kinds of furniture, manhole covers on the road, park and playground seats, bathing beach activity changing rooms, park antique pavilions and so on.
